Hayward SP1592 vs SP1593: What Is the Difference?

Back to my Hayward SP1592 ownership story

Short answer: the biggest model-number difference is horsepower. The SP1592 is the 1 HP model, while the SP1593 is the 1-1/2 HP model. Both are commonly listed as 115V Power-Flo Matrix pumps.

Is the 1-1/2 HP SP1593 automatically the better replacement?

No. More horsepower is not automatically better for an existing pool system. The filter, plumbing, pool size, flow restriction, and the pump you are replacing all matter. Oversizing a pump can create unnecessary flow, noise, energy use, or filter-system mismatch.

Which one did I own?

Our replacement pump was the SP1592, the 1 HP version. It worked well for the above-ground pool setup we had. I would not use that experience to claim that 1 HP is right for every pool, only that the specific SP1592 did the replacement job we bought it for.

What I would compare before switching models

Start with the old pump model, the filter’s supported flow, the plumbing size, and the reason you think you need more pump. If you are simply replacing a failed SP1592 in an unchanged system, moving to a different horsepower deserves an actual reason.

If you are checking the exact pump, this is the Hayward SP1592 / W3SP1592 listing I bought from.
