Do Sony MDR-ZX110NC Headphones Cancel Voices?
Back to my Sony MDR-ZX110NC ownership story
Short answer: voices are not what the MDR-ZX110NC’s active noise canceling is best at. Sony says the noise-canceling function is most effective in low-frequency ranges, such as airplanes, trains, and air-conditioning noise, and is less effective on higher-frequency sounds such as human voices.
What kind of noise should you expect it to reduce best?
Think steady droning noise: engines, ventilation, and similar low-frequency background sound. Active noise cancellation works by creating an opposing signal, and this design is aimed more at that steady low-frequency noise than at making nearby speech disappear.
Does fit matter?
Yes. Sony’s instructions say to adjust the earpads so they cover your ears properly and not to cover the headphone’s noise-canceling microphone with your hands.
Is “95% noise reduction” the same as removing 95% of everything you hear?
No. Sony’s published figure is based on its own measurement standard. The manual itself makes clear that effectiveness varies by frequency and wearing conditions.
