Copper Tape for Paper Circuits: One of My Favorite Simple Classroom Electricity Supplies
One of the things I liked about teaching electricity was getting students past the picture of a circuit and into actually building one.
Copper foil tape gave me a very simple way to do that. That hands-on classroom value is also what made me wish I had owned the Carson BugView when I was teaching science.
A student could draw where the circuit was supposed to go on paper or cardstock, lay conductive copper tape over the path, and then connect components such as an LED and a small battery.
The drawing became a real circuit.

Why copper tape works well for paper circuits
Copper conducts electricity, and adhesive copper tape lets you lay a conductive path onto a flat surface without stringing ordinary wire everywhere.
The current Amazon listing for my exact ASIN specifically includes paper circuits among its intended uses and says the adhesive itself is conductive.
That made it convenient for student projects where I wanted the circuit to stay attached to the paper.
The educational value was bigger than the tape
Students can look at a schematic and memorize that a circuit needs a complete path.
It becomes more meaningful when the LED does not light and they have to figure out why.
Is the tape actually touching the battery? Is the LED oriented correctly? Is there a gap? Did the path cross somewhere it should not?
The material creates little troubleshooting moments without requiring a complicated electronics lab.
Why I liked drawing the circuit first
I especially liked the ability to have students plan the circuit and then build directly over that plan.
The line on the paper stopped being symbolic and became the route the current would actually follow.
That connection between representation and physical system is the part I remember valuing most.
This is not only a classroom product
