Lasko T42951 Tower Fan Review: Six Years of Quiet, Useful Air Movement

I have owned the Lasko T42951 tower fan since 2020, and my review is not especially dramatic.

It moves air well. It does not take up much floor space. It oscillates without wobbling around like some traditional fans. It is not excessively noisy. It is another simple household helper, like the EyeVac we use for dog hair and the smart plugs we mostly use for lights, rather than something I bought for elaborate features.

I like it.

Sometimes that is enough.

My short version: the T42951 has been a good room-circulation fan for us. I often let it oscillate to move air around when the air conditioning is running. If I come in hot from yard work, I stop being subtle and point the fan at myself.

Why I like the tower shape

The footprint is one of the first things I notice compared with a traditional circular fan on a stand.

The T42951 is tall and narrow rather than putting a big round fan head into the room.

Lasko still sells the T42951 Wind Curve as a 42-inch tower fan. The current product page lists three speed settings, oscillation, a timer, nighttime mode, and a remote.

Of those features, oscillation matters to me much more than the remote.

I mostly use it with the air conditioning

When air-conditioning season arrives, I often run the fan at a lower setting and let it oscillate.

The goal is not to pretend the fan is creating cold air. I use it to help move the already-cooled air around the room.

That makes the room feel more evenly comfortable to me, especially when I do not want one stream of air pointed at the same chair all day.

When I am hot, I stop using it politely

If the house is warm and the air conditioning is not on yet, I turn the fan higher.

And if I have just come in from cutting grass or doing yard work, I may stop the oscillation completely and sit in front of it.

That is not sophisticated climate management. It works.

It is quieter than the traditional oscillating fans I remember

I would not call it silent.

I would say it is less noisy than the circular oscillating fans I have used, and I do not get the same sense of a big fan head physically jiggling back and forth.

Lasko itself currently calls the speed settings quiet, but my useful contribution is simply that the noise has never been excessive enough to bother me in normal room use.

The fan came with a remote control.

I honestly do not use it.

This is a good example of why I do not judge a product by how many features are on the box. A feature can be perfectly functional and still have almost no value to me personally.

Lasko’s current T42951 documentation identifies three speed settings, so I am not going to publish a contradictory number just because I said one while talking.

What I know from actual use is simpler: I normally use a gentler setting for circulation and turn it higher when I want more airflow.

Would I buy the Lasko T42951 again?

Yes.

It has been around for about six years, still does the basic job I bought it to do, and does not give me a list of annoyances to write about.
